If you've ever watched your phone slide off a dashboard mount mid-wave, or pulled a waterlogged charger out of a cupholder, you already understand the problem Aqua Amp was built to solve. Salt spray, vibration, UV exposure, and the constant motion of life on the water demand a completely different class of technology to what works on land.
Aqua Amp is an OEM marine-grade brand that has engineered what is widely regarded as the world's first truly waterproof wireless phone charging and USB data solution for boats. Every product in the range is rated IPX7 waterproof (submersible to 1 metre for 30 minutes), built with fully potted electronics, and designed to integrate cleanly into a professional helm installation. At LX2001, we're proud to be New Zealand's authorised stockist of the full Aqua Amp range.
This guide walks you through every product in the lineup, explains the key technology, and helps you choose the right combination for your vessel.
Before diving into individual products, it's worth understanding what makes Aqua Amp different from the marine accessories you'll find at a general electronics retailer.
Every Aqua Amp charger and mount uses fully potted electronics – meaning the internal circuitry is encased in a solid resin compound that completely seals it from moisture, salt, and condensation. This is a fundamentally different approach to simply adding a rubber gasket or a splash-proof coating. The result is a product that can be hosed down, submerged briefly, and exposed to years of salt air without degradation.
Aqua Amp chargers support the Qi2 standard, the next-generation wireless charging protocol that delivers up to 25W of power with precise magnetic alignment. This means:
Critically, Aqua Amp chargers are compatible with Apple MagSafe® and Google PixelSnap®, meaning the magnetic alignment system works seamlessly with the ecosystem your phone already uses.
All wireless chargers in the range run on a 10–24V DC input, making them directly compatible with standard 12V marine electrical systems. No inverters, no adapters – just a clean, direct connection to your vessel's power.
The mounting and charging architecture across the Aqua Amp range is patent pending, reflecting genuine engineering innovation rather than a rebadged consumer product.
The 500 Series is Aqua Amp's flagship clamping mount line, designed for boaters who want their phone visible and accessible at the helm. Spring-loaded vertical arms grip the phone securely even on rough water, while the magnetic alignment system ensures the phone snaps into the charging sweet spot every time.
The arm mount variant positions your phone on an adjustable ball joint arm, giving you full control over viewing angle and height. This is the go-to choice for helm installations where the mounting surface isn't directly in the sightline – the articulated arm lets you bring the phone to the perfect position.
The surface mount variant delivers the same clamping and charging performance in a lower-profile, direct-mount configuration. Ideal for flush helm panels or dash surfaces where you want a clean, integrated look without an arm extending into the cockpit. The digital output wire can optionally drive a status LED or communicate with external systems such as a vehicle ECU.
Also available as a ball-joint gimbal on an articulated arm or a slim socket.
The 700 Series takes a completely different approach to phone charging on the water. Rather than mounting the phone in open view, the cubby design tucks the phone away out of direct sunlight – a significant advantage in bright conditions where screen glare and UV heat can be a real problem.
The interior is lined with genuine Marine Mat® EVA foam, the same premium material used in high-end marine flooring, providing a cushioned, non-slip cradle that protects your phone from vibration damage. An integrated accent LED status indicator lets you know at a glance whether charging is active.
The 700 Series is particularly popular for centre console and cabin cruiser installations where a clean, uncluttered helm aesthetic is a priority.
The 800 Series is Aqua Amp's most compact wireless charger – an ultra-minimal surface mount with an exceptionally small footprint. It's the right choice when helm real estate is at a premium, or when you want a discreet charging pad that doesn't dominate the dashboard.
Despite its compact size, it delivers the full Qi2 25W charging performance and features the same ultra-strong magnetic alignment as the rest of the range. The output status indicator signal (3.3V @ 15mA) can optionally drive an external LED or integrate with vehicle ECU systems.
The 900 Series represents the premium tier of the Aqua Amp mount lineup, adding an integrated LED backlight to the arm mount form factor. This makes the 900 Series the standout choice for night fishing, dawn departures, or any situation where low-light visibility matters.
The flagship 900 Series arm mount combines horizontal side-clamping arms with a strong magnetic alignment system and an integrated LED backlight on an adjustable ball joint arm. The OEM marine-grade construction and horizontal clamping design make this one of the most secure phone mounts available for rough-water use.
The surface mount variant of the 900 Series delivers the same horizontal clamping and LED backlight in a direct-mount configuration – no arm required. Perfect for helm panels where you want the phone at a fixed position with the added visibility benefit of the integrated backlight.
Also available as a ball-joint gimbal on a slim socket.
This is arguably the most innovative product in the Aqua Amp range, and one of the most genuinely useful marine electronics accessories available anywhere. Modern marine multifunction displays (MFDs), chart plotters, and onboard computers typically have their USB 2.0 data port located on the back of the unit – completely inaccessible once the device is installed in a helm panel.
The Aqua Amp USB Data Port Relocator solves this elegantly: it moves that hard-to-reach USB 2.0 port to the dashboard, giving you front-panel access to USB data connectivity for:
The Power Injection feature is equally clever. Standard USB data connections draw power from the host device – which can interfere with data communication or overload the host's power supply. Aqua Amp's power injection system supplies power to the USB-A port from the vessel's 12V system directly, completely independently of the data passthrough. This means you can charge devices and maintain data communication simultaneously without any power conflicts.
The unit also includes a premium 30W USB-C PD charger and a 6W USB-A charger, making it a complete USB hub solution for the helm.
Choosing the right Aqua Amp setup comes down to three questions: how you use your phone on the water, what your helm layout looks like, and whether you need USB data connectivity.
→ 500 Series Arm Mount or 900 Series LED Arm Mount – the ball joint arm gives you full positional control, and the 900 Series adds the LED backlight for low-light use.
→ 500 Series Surface Mount, 800 Series Surface Mount, or 900 Series Surface Mount – direct panel mounting with no arm. The 800 Series is the most compact; the 900 Series adds the LED backlight.
→ 700 Series Charging Cubby – keeps the phone shaded, protected, and out of the way while charging. The Marine Mat® lining adds a premium touch.
→ USB Data Port Relocator w/ Power Injection – essential for any vessel with an MFD, chart plotter, or CarPlay/Android Auto receiver where USB data access is needed at the helm.
Pair any wireless charger with the USB Data Port Relocator for a fully integrated, waterproof charging and data hub at your helm.
All Aqua Amp wireless chargers are compatible with any Qi-enabled smartphone, including:
For maximum charging speed (Qi2 25W), your device must support the Qi2 standard. All chargers are backwards compatible with standard Qi (10W) devices.
